Have you noticed how different the light is in different parts of the world? The clear but often blinding glare in the southern Mediterranean; the filtered greyness of the UK; the warmth in the light in Africa. Although more subdued than Capri’s usual bella luce, the light on this November evening set off the ripples around the island’s imposing Faraglioni perfectly. (Italy, 2003)

Getting a new perspective
There’s nothing like travel to put things in perspective. All those daily stresses from home? Not so important anymore, when you’re trying to find your way around a new city where nobody speaks your language. Discovering the world does not end when I don’t check Twitter or Facebook for two weeks is also a great reality check.
And sometimes you get a great photo from an airplane window. What I love about this one is not just the wonderful view of the French Alps, but being so high up that I can see the curvature of the earth puts my ego in its place. (Somewhere above France, 2008)
