Friendly furry faces

A fortune-teller in the Bangkok’s Grand Palace told me a decade ago I must stop talking to dogs and cats on the streets. Perhaps it was a lucky guess, but he was spot on.

Whether it was one of the many street cats in Istanbul, a chilled out beach dog in Koh Samui or a nervy alpaca (strange but true) in Umbria, I’ve always keen to make friends with the four-legged locals. I’ve yet to meet an unfriendly one – and I like that there’s no language barrier.

But I do make sure my rabies shots are up to date, just in case that fortune-teller was onto something…
